Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Footballens (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use our website and services, and your rights under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). By using Footballens you agree to this policy.
1. Who we are
Footballens is the data controller responsible for your personal data. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@footballens.com.
2. What data we collect
- Account information — your email address, an optional name, and a password (which we store only as a secure, irreversible hash — we never see your actual password).
- Authentication — a single essential session cookie that keeps you signed in.
- Activity & security logs — records of account events (sign-up, sign-in, sign-out, account changes), including timestamps and your IP address, used to keep your account secure.
- Content you create — the MatchBriefs you generate are saved to your account so you can return to them.
- Payment information — if and when paid plans are offered, payments are processed by our payment provider; we do not store your card details.
We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.
3. How we use your data & our legal basis
- To provide the service (create your account, sign you in, save your briefs) — legal basis: performance of a contract.
- To keep accounts secure (activity logs, fraud and abuse prevention) — legal basis: our legitimate interests in protecting the service and users.
- To communicate with you about your account or important service changes — legal basis: performance of a contract / legitimate interests.
- To process payments (when paid plans exist) — legal basis: performance of a contract.
4. AI-generated content
When you generate a brief or view an AI preview, the relevant football data (teams, fixtures, injuries, form, head-to-head) is sent to a third-party AI service provider to produce the text. We do not send your personal account information to the AI provider as part of this process.
5. Who we share data with (sub-processors)
We never sell your personal data. We use a small number of trusted providers to run the service:
- Hosting & database — to run the application and store your account.
- AI content generation — to generate previews and briefs from football data.
- Football data providers — to supply fixtures, lineups, injuries and transfers.
- Payment processor — only if and when paid plans are offered.
Each provider is bound by data-processing terms and may only use your data to provide their service to us.
6. International data transfers
Some of our providers are located outside the European Economic Area (for example, in the United States). Where data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or an applicable adequacy decision.
7. How long we keep your data
- Account data is kept while your account is active.
- If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to meet a legal obligation.
- Security and activity logs are kept only as long as needed for security purposes.
8. Your rights under the GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erase your data (the “right to be forgotten”).
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Data portability — receive your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
- Complain to your local data protection supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@footballens.com. We will respond within the time limits required by law (normally one month).
9. Security
We protect your data with industry-standard measures: passwords are stored hashed, connections are encrypted (HTTPS), and access to personal data is limited. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to safeguard your information.
10. Children
Footballens is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, take reasonable steps to notify you.
