Alejandro Grimaldo
Player & move context
Alejandro Grimaldo is a Spanish left back currently at Bayer Leverkusen, having joined the German club after a long and successful spell at Barcelona's academy and then Benfica, where he established himself as one of the better attacking full backs in European football. Now in his late twenties, he is known for his energy going forward, his delivery from wide areas, and his ability to contribute directly to goals from the left flank. He had a standout season with Leverkusen as they won the Bundesliga, cementing his reputation as a top-level operator.
A reported link with Atlético Madrid makes reasonable footballing sense. Diego Simeone's side have long valued disciplined, high-intensity players on both flanks, and Grimaldo's combination of defensive solidity and attacking output would fit well within their system. He would add quality and experience to their left side, and as a Spaniard he would not need a work permit adjustment within Spain. Reports suggest personal terms may already have been discussed, with the sticking point appearing to be the fee Leverkusen are believed to be seeking.
At present this link is being carried primarily by Football España, so it should be treated with a degree of caution. It is worth monitoring, but nothing is close to confirmed at this stage.
